PHOTO/VIDEO: 13 killed, 35 injured in twin blasts at Zaventem Airport; explosion at metro station in Brussel

According to the Belgium broadcaster VRT, the explosion at the Brussels airport was a suicide attack. Blast was also reported at a Brussels metro station close to the EU buildings at Maalbeek. The entire Metro system in Brussels has been closed. Several people were reported injured at the metro station blast. According to Indian Ministry of External Affairs, all Indians in Belgium are safe.
Update: 11 people have been killed and 25 injured in the twin blast at Brussels Zaventem Airport, according to RT News. Security forces have detected more explosive contents at the airport. Bomb detection squad is still checking the airport.



Two loud explosions were heard at the Brussels Zaventem Airport in the capital city of Belgium, reported Belgian media. According to local media reports, two blast took place inside Brussels Zaventem Airport causing thick smoke at the airport. Smoke was seen rising from one of the terminal buildings of the Belgian airport
As per Belgian media reports, several people have been injured in the explosion at Brussels Zaventem Airport. The airport is being evacuated now. “I was in the duty free in Zaventem Airport and I heard two very, very loud explosions. I could feel the building move. There was also dust and smoke as well,” said Sky’s Alex Rossi.
The blasts come four days after the capture of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the Paris attacks in November, in Brussels. The capital city was on high alert following the arrest of Paris attacks mastermind. The cause of the explosions is unknown. Security forces have reached the spot and rescue operation in under-way.

There are reports that several people in the Brussels Airport departure hall have been injured. Rail traffic to the airport has been suspended following the blasts. No planes are allowed to make landing at Brussels Airport which is in lockdown. Flights are being diverted to Antwerp. Planes are seen circling over the city of Liege. More details are awaited.
