The Brazilian senate has suspended President Dilma Rousseff.
The senators voted 55 to 22 to
suspend the president to allow for her trial over allegations she broke the
country’s budget laws.
President Rousseff is facing
impeachment for allegedly lying about the country’s budget, to hide deficits.
Her salary, residency and security
will remain suspended during the trial.
They senators debated all night in a
session that lasted over 20 hours.
Vice President Michel Temer
is to act for the period of the trial.
Reports from Brazil said people are celebrating on the streets.
Ms. Rousseff became Brazilian president in 2011.
