A woman, Mrs. Abigail Brown, has been arrested for kidnapping her two children to get ransom from her husband in Rivers state.

Brown and her husband’s former driver, identified simply as ThankGod, were said to have kidnapped Abigail’s two children and called the husband to pay a ransom to secure their release.

Brown initially denied the allegation against her, but later said the act was not intentional.

She told PUNCH Metro that it was frustration that made her to commit the crime, adding that she had no means of survival.

A lady was severely beaten and stripped in front of her co-workers over her alleged affair with her married boss in Zimbabwe.

Sandra Chibanda, was left humiliated after her boss’s wife identified as Mai Jerry, H-Metro reports.

 Mai Jerry in the company of three friends stormed Sandra’s workplace demanding to know the nature of her relationship with Gerald Nyamunetsi who is the Transport Manager at a local transport firm near Highfields in Zimbabwe.

Boko Haram members flee Sambisa hideout

The Nigerian Army has said that the members of the Boko Haram Sect are fleeing from their Sambisa Forest hideout in large numbers.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the insurgents were leaving the Sambisa Forest in droves to escape being killed in the intensified aerial and ground offensive by the military.

Usman said the insurgents were fleeing Sambisa for various parts of the country.

He urged the members of the public to be more security conscious and report all suspicious movements to security agencies to prevent them from mingling members of the society.

Court sacks Amaju Pinnick as NFF President

A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State has sacked the Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick.

The Court also ordered Chris Giwa to resume office as president of the football federation.

The duo of Adama Yahaya and Obinna Ogba had approached the court to re-list the suit against Pinnick which they withdrew after the intervention of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has accused his potential successors of wanting him dead, saying shame is upon them because “I am not dying”.

Speaking with about 10,000 veterans of Zimbabwe’s 1970s independence war on Thursday, the oldest African ruler said his frequent trips to Malaysia and Singapore had fed newspaper reports that he was ill and sometimes dying, stoking succession fights in ZANU-PF, the ruing party.

“You then see a stampede now, they will be saying the president is dying. ‘I am not dying, shame on you’,” Reuters quoted him as saying during the first ever such meeting with the veterans.

“I am there at the mercy of the people. If the people say no, go, I go. But if the people say no, we still want you, I stay on.”

Judge Orders Release of Goodluck Jonathan’s Cousin from EFCC’s Detention

Mr Azibola Robert who was arrested on 23 March and has been in detention since is to be released on bail. The cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan was arrested by men of the anti-graft agency, EFCC on grounds of alleged diversion of $40m through phony contract of securing oil pipelines. This was carried out by a sister company of Kakatar Construction and Engineering Company Limited, One-Plus Holdings.

University of Lagos shut down over fuel crisis

The management of the University of Lagos on Thursday ordered the immediate closure of the institution ‎following students’ protests over epileptic power supply and poor water supply.

In a circular issued Thursday, the school said the closure was also due to the difficulties faced by the “large number of students” living off campus to attend classes as a result of the lingering fuel crisis.

“Senate noted that the problem of poor municipal service is a national issue that the governments at both state and federal level are addressing,” the circular stated.

Scores of students on Thursday blocked the major road leading into the university, including access to the school’s Senate building and the Assembly Hall where Rahman Bello, the Vice Chancellor, was attending an event.

Buhari receives details of 2016 budget

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday received details of the 2016 Appropriation Bill from the National Assembly.

On Wednesday, the chairmen of the Appropriations Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives, Danjuma Goje and Abdulmumin Jibrin respectively, submitted the budget details to the clerk of the National Assembly for onward transmission to the president.

The document was jointly delivered to the Presidential Villa by the Senior Special Assistants to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang and Kawu Sumaila, at about 12:05pm on Thursday.

EFCC arrests Jonathan's cousin for $40m contract scam

President Goodluck Jonathan’s cousin, Azibaola Roberts, remains in detention over a $40million (N12.7b) contract obtained from the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA) to ‘pacify’ militants in the Niger Delta.

Roberts, who was arrested alongside colleague Dakoru Atukpa, is the Managing Director of Kakatar Construction and Engineering Company Limited and One-Plus Holdings.
Gordy Uche (SAN), accused the EFCC of embarking on a vendetta mission against the ex-President.He said Roberts is being persecuted because of his blood link with Jonathan.

Truck kills pregnant woman, mob sets driver ablaze

Three persons, including a pregnant woman, have been crushed to death after a truck rammed into them in Osholo village, in the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The driver of the truck and another occupant were said to have been killed by an angry mob which set them ablaze.
It was gathered that the incident occurred last Thursday when the driver, who was en route to Weppa from Ekperi, ran into guests at a burial ceremony, leaving three persons dead and injuring others.
