Mr Azibola Robert who was arrested on 23 March and has been in
detention since is to be released on bail. The cousin to former President
Goodluck Jonathan was arrested by men of the anti-graft agency, EFCC on grounds
of alleged diversion of $40m through phony contract of securing oil pipelines.
This was carried out by a sister company of Kakatar Construction and
Engineering Company Limited, One-Plus Holdings.
A Federal Capital Territory High Court judge in Maitama, Abuja,
Justice Olasunbo, ordered Robert’s release after his lawyer, Chief Chris Uche
(SAN), held that the applicant’s detention by the EFCC for over two weeks was
unconstitutional. The judge stated that the bail should be guaranteed by two
sureties and each of the sureties must be a serving or retired Director in any
of the Federal Government ministries or parastatals, and must be resident
within Abuja.
The $40 million in question is believed to have come from
embattled former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), who is
also being prosecuted for the #DasukiGate saga.
