Extremist Boko Haram sect on Thursday said it was ready for a ceasefire and dialogue with the Federal Government.
A Boko Haram spokesman told journalists in Maiduguri that the group wanted discussions held in Saudi Arabia.
It also wants government to pay compensation for its members killed by security forces as well as the release of Boko Haram supporters in detention, including women and children, and the rebuilding of its damaged property.
The group also called for the prosecution of immediate Borno State Governor, Modu Sheriff.
Boko Haram said its team would comprise former head of state, Maj.-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.); Alhaji Shettima Monguno and others.
Responding, President Goodluck Jonathan in a statement by his spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, described it as “a welcome development.”
The sect has claimed responsibility for many bomb attacks, which have claimed hundreds of lives and property.
