Genevieve
Nnaji's small part in the big screen
adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel “Half of a Yellow Sun” has been cut out from the finished film. It wasn't
just Genevieve's scenes that were cut from the movie, a few other characters
from the book didn't appear in the movie. Sources in the know say the producers
may have cut Genevieve from the movie because her character wasn't important to
the story and was dragging the storyline unnecessarily. Other characters didn't
appear because there was not much time to tell everyone's story. Genny may
appear in a scene or two but it will be very insignificant. Genevieve played
the role of Ms Adebayo, a professor who develops a flirtatious relationship
with her colleague Mr Odenigbo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Half of a Yellow Sun features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dominic Cooper, Anika Noni Rose and Thandie Newton. Produced by Andrea Calderwood and directed by Biyi Bandele. The book centers on the Nigerian civil war and was published in 2006.
