Reverend King loses appeal; to be killed, court insists

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Friday confirmed the death sentence slammed on Chukwuemeka Ezeugo (alias Rev. King) for killing a member of his church over six years ago.
Ezeugo had asked the court to set aside the verdict of a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, which convicted him of killing Ann Uzoh, a member of the Christian Praying Assembly in July 2006.
He was accused of pouring petrol on Uzoh and setting her on fire.
Ezeugo, who was first arraigned in September 2006 was convicted and sentenced to death in January 11, 2007 by Justice Joseph Olubunmi Oyewole.
The cleric was arraigned on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.
Ezeugo’s lawyer Mr. Olalekan Ojo, in a notice of appeal, said the cleric was not present at the scene when the incident took place.
“Uzoh had, in two statements before her death said she got burnt in a generator accident and that Ezeugo was not responsible for her injuries, “Ojo stated.
