Two men killed at least five people at an Ivory Coast beach
hotel popular with foreigners on Sunday, according to two people familiar with
the ongoing operation.
The attack happened about 30 kilometers (19 miles) east of
Abidjan, the commercial capital, at the L’Etoile du Sud hotel in Grand Bassam,
said the people, who asked not to be identified because the operation against
the attackers is ongoing and no public statement has yet been made.
The French military and Ivorian police have arrived at the site
of the attack, Abidjan.net reported.
Groups linked to al-Qaeda have killed more than 50 people
in attacks on hotels in the capitals of Mali and Burkina Faso since November.
Ivory Coast has been on high alert since then and has been warned by French
officials about the possibility of an attack since last year.
