Former Member of the Supreme Military Council, Major General Mammam Shuwa was shot dead in his resident at Gwange in Maiduguri, on Friday November 2nd. This happened less than 12 hours after the leadership of the Boko Haram sect expressed its willingness to suspend further violent attacks as a prelude for dialogue with the Federal Government.
Unfortunately, a guest who was visiting was also killed.
Men of the Boko Haram group were later pointed at and blamed for the uncalled for assassination. But the terrorist group yesterday denied having a hand in the General's death. A representative for the group said they held the general in high esteem as he never acted against them and their acts; and so they had no reason to kill him.
